1. Our Services
Turning Leaves Autobiographies offers bespoke life story writing services, including interviews, editorial support, book design, and printing. Each project is tailored to the client’s unique story and preferences.
Scope of Service
We provide personal biography creation through interviews conducted by our writers.
We offer editorial and design services to produce a professionally bound book.
Additional services (e.g. extra copies, extended interviews, increased word count, digital formats, expedited timelines) may be available at an additional cost.
Our books are intended for private use and personal distribution. We do not offer publishing or commercial distribution services as part of our standard packages.
2. Client Responsibilities
To ensure a smooth and meaningful experience, clients agree to:
Provide accurate and timely information during interviews.
Review drafts and provide feedback within agreed timelines.
Respect the creative and editorial process.
You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of all content, stories, and materials (including photographs and documents) you provide. We do not verify the accuracy of your content and are not liable for any errors, omissions, or third-party claims arising from it.
If you fail to engage or respond within 30 days of a request for input or feedback, we may pause the project. We will make reasonable efforts to contact you before doing so.
3. Payment Terms
Pricing
All prices are quoted in GBP and include VAT unless otherwise stated.
Payment Schedule
A non-refundable deposit is required to begin the project.
The remaining balance is due in instalments or upon completion, as outlined in your individual agreement or invoice.
Cooling-Off Period
You have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of paying the deposit, provided we have not yet begun work (e.g. conducting interviews or writing). To cancel, please notify us in writing (email is fine). If you request that we begin work within the 14-day period, you waive your right to a full refund.
Refunds
Due to the personalised nature of our services, refunds are not available once work has commenced.
In exceptional circumstances, we may consider partial refunds at our discretion, depending on the stage of completion. Any such requests must be made in writing.
Late Payments
If payments are not made on time, we reserve the right to pause work until the account is brought up to date. Final materials (including the printed book) will not be delivered until full payment is received.
4. Intellectual Property
Upon full payment, you will own the copyright in the final version of your autobiography.
Until full payment is received, all drafts, designs, and materials created during the process remain the intellectual property of Turning Leaves Autobiographies.
We retain the right to use short, anonymised excerpts from your autobiography for promotional purposes (e.g. portfolio, website, marketing), unless you opt out in writing.
If you choose to publish or distribute your autobiography beyond personal use, you do so at your own risk. We are not liable for any consequences arising from such publication.
5. Privacy and Confidentiality
We take your privacy seriously. All personal information shared during the project is treated as confidential and used solely for the purpose of creating your autobiography.
We comply with applicable data protection laws, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). For more details, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
We will not share your information with third parties unless necessary to fulfil the service (e.g. book printing), and we ensure those parties are bound by confidentiality.
6. Project Timeline
Typical projects take 3–6 months to complete, depending on the package and client availability. This is an estimate and may vary based on your responsiveness and scheduling.
If a project significantly exceeds the expected timeline due to client delays, we may discuss and agree on an additional fee to cover the extra time and effort required to complete the project.
Unforeseen events (e.g. illness, emergencies, or other force majeure circumstances) may impact timelines. We will communicate any such delays and work with you to adjust the schedule as needed.
7. Changes and Cancellations
Edits
Minor edits (e.g. factual corrections, small changes in wording) are included in your package.
Substantial changes (e.g. restructuring the story, adding new chapters after a draft is approved) may incur additional fees. We will always discuss and agree any extra charges with you in advance.
Cancellations
If you wish to cancel the project, please notify us in writing (email is acceptable).
Cancellation fees may apply depending on the stage of completion. The deposit is non-refundable. If significant work has been completed, only a partial refund (or no refund) may be available.
We reserve the right to cancel the project in cases of non-payment, breach of these terms, or inappropriate behaviour. In such cases, we will notify you in writing and refund any appropriate amount based on work completed.
8. Limitation of Liability
Turning Leaves Autobiographies shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of our services. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by the client for the services.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
You agree to indemnify us against any claims, losses, or legal costs arising from content you provide, including but not limited to defamation, copyright infringement, or breach of privacy.
9. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.
